Edward Ferkany retired as president of Worthington Steel in March 2003. Prior to his more than 28 years with Worthington Industries, Mr. Ferkany was a college assistant football coach at Western Michigan University, the U.S. Naval Academy and Ohio State University. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1959 and master’s degree in 1961, both in education from Bowling Green State University, and participated in football during his collegiate career. He is active in the greater Columbus community and serves on a number of corporate boards. Mr. Ferkany and his wife, Jeanne, a 1959 BGSU graduate, reside in Powell.

In early 1998, while performing a breast self-exam, Stefanie Spielman felt a lump. She immediately had it examined by her physician and was told...at age 30...that she had breast cancer.
Stefanie has now survived two bouts with breast cancer. She believes that education is the best weapon against this disease, and that research is the key to eliminating it. That’s why she and her husband, former OSU football star and All-Pro NFL linebacker Chris Spielman, established the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at The James. They have raised more than $2 million to be dedicated to breast cancer research at the Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University.
